Graduate research can be rewarding, but it can also be one of the most stressful parts of an academic journey. From shaping research questions to interpreting results and preparing for a final defense, the process often requires far more than just running statistics. Good Natured Statistics provides thoughtful graduate support designed to bring clarity, confidence, and structure to each stage of the work.

This support is especially valuable for graduate students working on theses, dissertations, capstones, and other major research projects. The goal is not simply to produce results, but to help students understand their findings, communicate them effectively, and feel prepared for the next step.

Graduate support often begins well before the data analysis stage. In many cases, students need help refining research questions, improving the clarity of their study design, or developing a stronger data collection plan. This can include assistance with writing clear and analyzable research questions, creating a productive strategy for collecting data, and developing surveys or other tools that will lead to meaningful results.

Once the data have been collected, support continues through analysis, write-up, interpretation, and implications. This includes identifying the most important findings, organizing the results clearly, and helping frame those findings in the discussion section. The process is designed to help students move from uncertainty to a more complete and confident understanding of their work.

Defense Preparation for Graduate Students

For graduate students, support goes beyond the analysis itself. Final defense preparation is also available. With 12 years of statistical consulting experience, combined with prior experience serving as a professor and dean of statistics and research, Good Natured Statistics brings a strong understanding of the graduate process and the kinds of questions that often arise during a defense.

Having served on 83 dissertation committees with 83 successful graduates, this experience provides valuable perspective on how students can prepare effectively. Support may include practicing answers to likely defense questions, identifying talking points for the conclusions and discussion sections, and strengthening the student’s ability to explain their methods, findings, and reasoning with confidence.

The Process

The process begins with a free consultation to determine whether your project and Good-natured Statistics is a good fit. If it is, an invoice is provided listing the recommended services and proposed fee. You approve by paying your good faith deposit. This gives you a place in line behind current clients.

For most projects, a review copy is provided within 7 to 10 working days once the work begins. After the student reviews and approves the work by paying the remaining balance, final formatted copy is delivered for inclusion in the dissertation, thesis, or publication. PowerPoint slides of the results are also included. The process concludes with a 2-hour review meeting to thoroughly explain the results and make sure the student feels prepared to move forward.
